Avery Adores...

dressing up! After we returned home she discovered Brinley's suit and goggles. She also continues to enjoy modeling various undergarments over her clothing as seen here

While at Disneyland Yvette wanted to get a special gift for Avery
since she was too little to join us. She hit the nail on the head and
Avery has LOVED wearing her very own princess costume!

Disneyland

What a magical time we had during our 4 day stay at Disneyland!
Brinley's favorites: Space Mountain, swimming in a huge hot tub, cotton candy, dinner with the princesses, breakfast with the Disney characters, staying up late, Peter Pan, chocolate covered banana, the main street parade, running across the street from our hotel towards Disneyland, her long sucker, playing with Nikki & Auntie, eating out, rides, rides, rides.
Leah's favorites: Not having to clean, cook, do laundry, go grocery shopping, make beds or break up Avery / Brinley battles. Watching Brinley's delight as she saw and embraced the various princesses / characters, hearing Brinley squeal and laugh on the rides (especially the fast ones), spending time with Nikki & Yvette, eating out, short lines, staying in a hotel right next to the park, not having to arrange one tiny detail because Yvette took care of it all!

A Peek into our Week

Dad and Brinley make their first snowman of the year
(not much snow here in Ohio, this was our second big dump).

Brinley attends a princess party and gets suited up in her party favor
gear to enjoy some yogurt.
We attend our Doctor's Hospital playgroup Valentines party. So fun!
Avery discovers that under a chair is a fun place to be.

Mommy makes little Valentines treats for her Thursday morning
Urban Iron class at the gym.

Valentines Treats

These are quickie sucker covers I made for Brinley to hand out
to friends at school and playgroup.
Brinley wrote the names of each classmate on the back of the covers.

How to host a Valentine Cookie Decorating Party

1- Reminiss about the good 'ole days when Mom did all of the work and you just enjoyed. Above is a Cookie Party in 1983...I was ONE at the time.
My brother Arian is the blondie on a chair.
Go HERE to see my Mom's cookie party pics. from this year!

2- Snap back into reality and realize that from now on you will be doing all the baking! Try not to get all emontional about being away from the family during this tradtition.
3- Find aprox. 4 hours of spare time to make and bake huge sugar cookies, two at a time, in a heart shape. Make a heart template with cardstock. Good luck!

4-Order pizza for dinner. If you plan on "containing" the pizzas in your oven to keep them warm Cody would reccommend NOT turning the oven on (while the pizzas are still in the boxes). If you choose to turn the oven on you may end up with a big fire and a pizza
that looks like this!
5- Invite lots of friends and family over to join in the fun. Indulge the children by letting them put as much frosting and candy on their cookies as they would like.
This makes for wonderful childhood memories.
Pictured above is McKenna's beautiful creation.

Countdown!

Last night for our Family Home Evening activity we made a
countdown chain for Disneyland!
In exactly 6 days from tomorrow Auntie Yvette and her daughter Nikki are taking Brinley and I to Disneyland!!! We will be staying at the Paradise Pear hotel right by the park. Auntie has scheduled a dinner with the princesses, we will be swimming in the hotels
roof top pool and spending 3 and 1/2 days at the park.
We waited until the beginning of this month to tell Brinley the news, but Yvette has been talking about wanting to take us there since I was pregnant with Brinley.

We are SO excited for this trip and we are SO thanful for the love and
generosity that Auntie Yvette continually blesses our family with! We are also thankful to Ashli Welsh who is going to be taking care of Avery during the days when we are gone.
We will miss Daddy, he is looking forward to another
full week of work while we are away.

Patients be kind to your Doctors

Yesterday I was missing my dear husband and my children were longing to play with Daddy. It's always worse when I know he is going to be on call two weekends in a row...this time going for a 19 day stretch with one day off (and some think radiology is a more "cush" residency). Sometimes the fact that we are in this for 10 years seems managable, other times it feels like an eternity. So yesterday I was thinking about the amount of time that we and he (my sweetie) have devoted to becoming a Doctor.
At the end of year 10 (4 years of medical school, 6 years of residency, intern year and fellowship year) he will have spent about:

3,450 Days
3,300 5am Study Sessions
2,500 Late Night Study Sessions
29,200 Working Hours
1,752,000 Minutes in residency and school
3 moves across the country
(From L.A. to MO. From MO to Utah and from Utah to Ohio)

So patients be good to your doctors. They have spent an enormous amount of time and energy and made incredible sacrifices to help you live longer, healthier lives. Many of my friend's resident husbands work even longer hours than Cody. And for those of you who believe that men and women who choose to become doctors are doing it for the money, lets chat, and until then remember that 25 years after medical school and residency is through chances are that your doctor is still paying on his student loans.

Mom in Jamaica

Two weeks ago my Mom flew to N.Y. to meet with Dr. Boachi, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in Scoliosis. She has seen several Scoliosis specialists in different parts of the country in the past year as she prepares to undergo major surgery on her spine. At age 14 my Mom spent a full year lying flat in bed after having 8 of her vertebra fused. At the time doctors thought this to be the best cure for severe Scoliosis. My Mom has experienced severe pain every day for many years. The good news = Dr. Boachi is willing to operate on her and without going into details, he will take her spine from a 65 degree angle to a 30 degree angle in hopes of aleviating some of her pain. The bad news = She will have to undergo a major surgery in N.Y.C. on May 20th of this year and spend many months recovering from it. My sister Kelty will be with my Mom during her entire stay in N.Y., my brother Arian will be there during the surgery and for some time after and I will be flying out to N.Y. for about 6 days one week after the surgery. She also has dear friends who are on board to help my Mom as she recovers.

In true Ginger style, my Mom headed out to Jamaica for an adventure after her appointment in New York. While there she stayed with Dorothy Cousins, our friend's mother. Staying with Dorothy gave Mom a true glimps of life in Jamaica. Out her bedroom window she had an incredible view of the jungle on one side and the beach on the other. She thoroughly enjoyed listening to all of the jungle night sounds as she went to sleep and was greeted to a new day by exoctic chirping birds.

Other highlights of her trip included: Visiting the local childcare center, floating down the Rio Grande on the raft (pictured above) and eating real Jamaican food cooked by Dorothy.

Crew Classics Club Night!

This month we used product contained within the Crew Classics Style Watch. Using our Nursery Necessities stamp set, East Coast Prep Designer paper and a variety of punches we made this photo wallet / gift card holder / sign-in book. In the picture up top you can see how it folds into a small wallet size. Down below notice how you end up with
9 surfaces for pictures, notes and / or gift cards!

At the technique table I demonstrated how to use our new Rub-Ons as seen below...and on almost every other project pictured here!

Here are the quickie club favors I made for my ladies!

Star tin front and back using On Board, Dessigner Paper and Anchored Rub-Ons.
The second project club members made was this 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 square card with a matching stamped envelope.
Sorry about the lack of clarity in these photo's. I have to downsize the pixels to upload them onto my new site at http://leahyoung.stampinup.net .
