Disney Comercial Break...

brought to you by Halloween 2010!

The girls chose these costumes from our dress up box.
Brinley was a "modest Jasmine,"
Avery & Aspen were cheerleaders.

(Avery holding her lips real still as to not harm her lipstick)

This was Aspen's first year to walk the trick or treating trail.
She loved it!

A homeowner in our subdivision puts on quite an elaborate haunted house each year. He starts putting things up in the beginning of October and the children enjoy seeing the new additions as we pass by
throughout the month.

The blue tarp tunnel walkway is even equipped with live
scary costumed actors, music and smoke machines.

These are the girls dear friends Lauren (cowgirl) and Kirsten (bunny).

Here are Adam and Leslie, Aspen's surrogate parents
while we were at Disney.
Aspen even christened them with the names Mommy and Daddy,
which I think is actually quite sweet!

We all love the Drexel family!

We arrived back home in plenty of time to sit on our porch
and hand out candy to other children.

Finger Print

When we arrived home and downloaded our pictures we realized that the quality was very poor and that something had gone wrong with our camera. Come to find out that a juicy child finger print had graced our camera lens the entire trip!

My apologies on Avery's behalf, the child who delights in sneaking camera usage time and taking
random pictures as often as possible.

Moving on.

Day #3 - Epcot

As you can see we enjoyed our fill of characters during this trip.
I am happy to report that we only waited in one line, one time,
to see them. We were greeted by the rest during character dinings.

Let me just put a plug in for the dining plan,

I highly recommend it!

We booked out trip during a special when the dining plan was included for FREE. Yep folks, we paid for zero expensive theme park food and found ourselves eating at bountiful buffets boasting culinary delights such as salmon, roast beef, speciality salads, roasted & steamed vegetables, fresh fruit and I think you get the picture.

(Tusker house buffet at Animal Kingdom)

The dining plan also covers character dining experiences and special nightly dinner shows, like the Luau we attended.

Moving on.

Here is what I have discovered, I am no photographer. I pulled out the camera mostly during the classic picture taking times and during all the other times preferred to just enjoy and embrace the experiences and forget about picture taking.
The majority of our day at Epcot was spent on rides
surprisingly enough.

Our favorites included:

Test Track
Soarin'
The Seas with Nemo & Friends
Turtle Talk with Crush
(not a ride but very cute)

In the evening we went to Norway for a "Royal Banquet"
with the princesses.

Here the girls are carefully contemplating a purchase.
They were each allowed one souvenir during the trip and thought long and hard about several possibilities. Near the end of the trip they each
decided on a stuffed animal.

Prior to the princess event we talked to the girls all about how this was a
"Royal" dinner and that we needed to pay very special attention
to use our best table manners.

They were absolutely enamored with the special princess guests.
Cody was absolutely a great sport!

They have only seen Cinderella and Little Mermaid. In fact we realized that several of the characters at Disney were foreign to them...
and I thought that was just great!

Avery, using those top notch table manners to the best of her abilities.

We actually ran out of time to walk around to all of the countries,
none the less we loved our Epcot day!

And just in case you were wondering about our third child,
she stayed behind, too young this time around.

Thanks to our friends Leslie & Adam and their girls,
she was very well taken care of!

On the last day & night our other friends, Caroline, Mark, Cheryl & Gordon took over when Leslie's family headed out on their Disney trip!

How we love them for loving and caring for Aspen!

Day 1 & 2

If you guessed Tower of Terror on the previous post
you are the winner!

------------------------------------------------------------
We enjoyed a fun filled vacation at Disney World last week.
Here are some of the details:

Day #1- Depart early in the morning.

The "Magical Express" bus transported us
from the airport to our resort.
The girls were so excited to watch the special "welcome video"
on the bus ride there.

Next stop was the main resort pool.
I was so pleased by how warm the water was.
The pool had a long slide which the girls were thrilled about.

We swam twice during our stay. The second time Avery went
down the slide non-stop. The lifeguard thought it was so cute he awarded her with a water splash ball as a prize for going down so many times.

Meanwhile Brinley enjoyed one-on-one crazy pool play
with Dad and a giant beach ball
near where the slide kept spitting Avery out.

Day #2- Magic Kingdom

Here is how it looks when the girls fight over every conceivable thing. In this picture they were fighting over space on a stool at Minnie's house in Toon Town.

Moving on.

The Magic Kingdom was well, magical!

We had a great Disney vacation planner who had helped us map out our plan of action for each park, so when we arrived we knew exactly what to do, where to go, when to get fast passes and what parades/shows to attend.

We were on a mission to see and do as much as we could
...and we did just that!

By bringing a stroller for both girls we could zip from here to there
in no time at all, which made acquiring fast passes a breeze.

We enjoyed lunch at the Crystal Palace with
Eeyore, Tiger,Piglet and Pooh.

The longest line we waited in at any park was the line for Dumbo
at the Magic Kingdom...and that was only 30 minutes.

The girls favorite rides at the Magic Kingdom:
Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain
Space Mountain
( Splash Mountain)

Aside from rides, we loved the:

The firework show was quite impressive!

Disney has a great transportation system if you
stay in one of their resorts.
Buses, boats and the monorail take guests to and from all of the parks.

Next up, Epcot & Hollywood Studios!

One Guess

This picture was taken during the girls favorite
ride at Disney World.

We went on it FIVE times!

Can you guess what ride it was?

Fall Food

#1 Apple Crisp

5 1/2 C. sliced or diced apples
1 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
1/3 C. water
1/2 C, brown sugar
1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. butter
3/4 and 1 T. flour

Place apples in baking dish, sprinkle with cinnamon and mix.
Pour water over apples.
In a separate bowl cream butter & sugars.
Blend in flour then spread mixture over top apples.

Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes!

I made this the other night for the girls when Daddy was at work and used much less sugar and butter and it turned out great!
I also diced the apple small for little mouths.
Home made whip cream or ice cream is a necessity
when serving this seasonal treat!

#2 Chicken Noodle Soup

No recipe here folks, this is just one of those soups you whip up.
The more veggies the merrier! You can even add cauliflower puree to this.
For this soup I do always crock pot my chicken on low in chicken broth, then shred and add to soup shorty before serving.

#3 Easiest Ever Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
(recipe from my visiting teacher)

1 box spice cake mix
1 15 oz. can pumpkin
1/3 C. applesauce
1 bag chocolate chips

Beat the first 3 ingredients until batter in nice and fluffy.
Fold in chocolate chips.

Bake at 375 for 15-18 minutes depending on cookie size.

*Tip = I use the medium Pampered chef cookie scoop size
and bake on a stone.

#4 Whole Wheat French Toast

Sunday breakfast is always our "special" breakfast day,
when Daddy makes breakfast if he is home.
This week he was on call so I was the chef.
We are all much happier when Daddy is.

Tomorrow I am off to Kentucky,
stay tuned to find out why!

444th Post!

This week we visited Aspen's orthopedic surgeon for her
two year check up.

(Avery loved searching for hidden pictures in this book. She insisted I take a picture of her holding it.)

While sitting in the waiting room a flood of
memories filled my head,
memories of many, many prior trips to this office.

Oh the tears, the hurried comfort nursing of my crying baby in between cast removal and replacement, the soaking cast baths,
the new wet cast that took an entire day to dry and kept Aspen up all night fussy from discomfort.

As I sat there I felt elated that THESE days were behind us AND
I also felt grateful that such top notch health care
has been available to us.

Aspen was just delighted to see her beloved doctor,
as you can clearly see from the pictures below.

She began protesting the minute we were called back into the room.
Poor thing, she was so scared she began to sweat while
clinging onto me
in a death grip.

She recently received several immunizations and my guess is she thought
she was in for another shot;
a four letter word in my vocabulary, apparently her's too.

Avery calmed her down by showing her how there
were hidden objects in this book.
The tears subsided until our doctor appeared.

It was so great to see her after almost an entire year!

(Avery posing in Aspen's place)

She said that Aspen's foot looks terrific, perfect in every way...
and then came the recommendation I dreaded hearing,
"Research indicates that she will need to continue to wear her brace
every night until she is 4 years old."
FOUR YEARS OLD PEOPLE.

As we wrapped up I wanted to take a picture of Aspen with her doctor to add to a slide show I'm compiling of her treatment,
here is how she responded.

Fortunately Avery was ready and willing to pose in the
picture as a stand-in.

A sucker ended the  appointment on a high note.
Aspen's car seat was evidence that her sugary experience was
 quite enjoyable.

Before we left we were able to see Miss Cheri,
  our most wonderful cast tech.

Since Daddy's home...I mean hospital was on our way home,
we stopped by for a quick visit. The girls ran down the 11 hallways and in and out of the 4 elevators to reach Dad's location at work,
screeching with delight the entire way.

What made our little hallway journey simply smashing were these shoes
Grandma Ginger gave Aspen a while back. She adores them and
basks in the attention she draws when wearing them.
I would highly recommend them for your child or as a gift!

We then fed our kids a super healthy quick lunch which may have looked  like THIS at one point in time.

After reading the article my friend sent along I'd like to say it will be the
last time they ingest such delightful garbage.

Daddy is seen as a superhero in the girls' eyes,
can you see it? You know, I think they are dead on!

Up next, Hanger Orthotics for a larger pair of THESE,
just in time for her 2nd birthday!

Changing It Up

When our mantel becomes cloaked in a new theme
the children know
that a holiday is fast approaching!

I delight in the squeals of excitement when the children discover
the change in decor.

Thursday night we enjoyed dinner in our now spooky dining room
with the missionaries and Burnetts...minus Trevor who was on call.

Last week I purchased our winter supply of flavored hot chocolates
to prepare for cozy nights by the fireplace.

Post Call

Last Sunday morning I shuffled the children out the door.
Daddy was post-call and we wanted to let his few hours of sleep
be peaceful ones.
So I decided we would enjoy God's beauty during
a "nature walk" on a local trail.

(Avery's nature masterpiece)

I presented each child with their own Ziploc baggie, displaying their name of course to avoid confusion and thus avoid a fight.
I instructed them to collect pieces of nature that they
found interesting and beautiful.

(Brinley's nature masterpiece)

Oh how they were excited peeking their heads into bushes and pointing out the tiniest of details during out walk.
I had to be on the lookout to ensure the safety of both my
children and the dozens of bike riders who whizzed by us.

Aspen rather enjoyed plopping herself down right in the middle of the path every so often to protest our too-fast-for-her walking pace.

Brinley would then sweetly encourage her,
in the motherly way that she does,
to stand up and keep walking.
I find myself inclined to stand back and let Brinley mother
Aspen as often as I can permit, it is truly precious.

(Aspen's nature masterpiece)

As our walk came to an end Aspen had become quite insistent on placing nearly every item she happened upon into her special bag.
The following evening, as part of our FHE, the girls created nature collages using the items they had selected on our nature
walk the previous day.

---------------------------------------------------------

Fast forward to today.

This morning Daddy made this delicious Hootin' Anny pancake
to kick of our
Conference Sunday!

We love conference weekend when we receive council and uplifting messages from the Lord's Prophet,
12 Apostles and other leaders of the church.
The broadcast is viewed throughout the world and
translated into 63 languages.

During the first Saturday session new Temples are announced.
Yesterday President Monson announced:

Lisbon, Portugal
Indianapolis, Indiana
Philippines
Hartford, Connecticut
Tijuana, Mexico

...and THESE (gotta scroll to the bottom) are the other
Temples under construction right now.

This weekend marks the 180th Semi-Annual General Conference.
Who wouldn't delight in listening to messages like THIS?
