Grandma Ginger's Visit
For several months before her visit to us, Grandma Ginger traveled throughout
South East Asia and visited several countries.
I admire my Mom for her adventurous spirit!
She has traveled to many diverse parts of the world where she has been the only "tourist" around
and met people from many different cultures.
She openly embraces the people she meets and enjoys
experiencing aspects of their daily lives...
and I'm pretty sure they love having a white westerner
respectfully embrace their culture!
Below is just a tiny sampling of pictures she took from on her most recent trip.
Many of the pictures she brings back from her travels seem worthy to
Many of the pictures she brings back from her travels seem worthy to
grace the cover of National Geographic!
Mom gets a hair cut. This guy is a barber and a dentist of sorts as well.
He pulls out rotten teeth and offers haircuts.
Weaving floor mats in a villagers home.
She takes boats, trains, motorcycles, taxi's and planes to get from place to place.
A hike along rice fields.
In one area different tribes wear different colors. This tribe wears blue.
In one place she stayed in a house built on stilts like these.
This is how they fish.
She is not really afraid of...anything.
She ate her fair share of rice....
and roadkill, including DOG.
We love seeing pictures of her experiences, reading her e-mails and, when she gets home,
hearing all about the cultures and people she has grown to respect and admire.
After her Asia adventures and then time with my brothers family in London,
Grandma was off to exotic OHIO!
She spent an afternoon in the diverse marshlands of our neighborhood pond exploring wildlife with the children. They captured, and potentially permanently traumatized,
a frog they affectionately named William.
Every time we pass this pond the children now look for William.

She indulged the girls in a muddy romp next door...soon to be a home foundation.
The girls thought it was
THE coolest thing to have Grandma enjoying the mud play
just as much as they were!
They explored the wild jungle of...our backyard,
and walked along death defying raging rapids, AKA...
the creek in our back yard.
It's pretty much awesome back there!
Each day we took adventurous walks along the wide paved paths of our master planned development, because we Young's are brave like that.
Mom and Dad went on a glorious date one night and
Grandma helped the children to make
homemade sugar cookies and icing
so that they could decorate them with the edible markers she brought...no road kill that night.
Helping Aspen to enjoy doing her homework
is pretty much like walking up
1,000 stairs to explore a high temple in Asia...right Mom?
AND helping Reese to get dressed without a tantrum can be likened to a
non-stop flight to the other side of the globe.
The picture below perfectly depicts the reverence my mother has for nature.
After the rain stopped she went outside with Reese and found two earthworms.
Reese was beyond thrilled about her new little pets.
We placed them in a Tupperware container and she insisted on bringing them to school and to the gym. By the end of the second day I had a great deal of pity on these innocent little creatures who had been bounced and shaken nearly to death,
so I released them into the yard after she went to sleep.
You should have been here to witness the tantrum
when she found that one out, it was definitely a 5 star!
We are so thankful for our earthworm loving, frog catching,
mud playing, globe trotting Grandma!
Thanks for coming to visit us, we love you!
